A jewel sitting
in the corner of northeastern Oklahoma, Bartlesville High
School is home to a student population of approximately
900.
The Bruins have a history of excellence in both academics
and athletics. BHS offers 20 advanced placement classes
and boasted a 22.1 in the 2006 ACT composite score. The
Bruins captured boys state basketball titles in 1989, 1991
and 1992. And under the direction of head coach Tim Bart,
who has led the school to four state tournament
appearances, BHS seems destined to add to the collection.
Established in 1982 following the merger of two
institutions – College High School and Sooner High School
– Bartlesville High School continues to make strides. On
Dec. 3, 2006, the Bruins unveiled the new BHS Fieldhouse,
a state-of-the-art venue, which seats approximately 2,200.
The fieldhouse features ample locker room space, a
training room, a hospitality room, a weight room, a
state-of-the-art scoreboard and a video message room. Bart
was part of the Fieldhouse Bond Design Steering Committee
and had input into the layout and overall look of the
facility.
Other additions to the school in recent years – thanks to
a $30.5 million bond issue, which was passed in 2001 –
have been the $8.8 million Fine Arts Center and the $2.3
million Science Wing. More parking areas and athletic
practice fields have recently been added to the campus as
well. Presently, work is continuing on a new media system,
connecting link and mechanical system.
Bartlesville High School has a rich history, a sterling
present and a glowing future. There’s no shortage of Bruin
pride in the community.
