Edmond Memorial Bulldogs
33-48, 10-1
The streak is over! Two teams both 10-0, battling in the
championship game. A year ago we were playing in the 7th
place game and a year later we are in the finals. Edmond
Memorial is ranked #1 in 6A and I now know why. They are
very good and well coached! We jumped out to an early
lead at 13-6 after the first quarter. It was a back and
forth game in the second quarter with the score tied at
20 at the half. In the third quarter the game got
physical and they put a lot of pressure on our guards
and we didn’t handle that very well. They took us out of
our offense and we struggled! I am still proud of my
young team and the fight they put up. Losing is never
good, however; I believe this game showed that we are
close to being one of the best teams in the State if we
continue to work hard and be fundamentally sound. We
need to take better care of the ball, block out on both
ends and be more detailed and then we will have a chance
to compete with the elite teams.

Southmoore Sabercats
50-49, 10-0
WOW, what a game! My point guard is questionable and my
center has the flu, needless to say I was a little
nervous going into the game. We played well early but
struggled in the second quarter and were down three at
the half. We had a great third quarter outscoring them
20-12. The fourth quarter belonged to Southmoore, we
couldn’t guard their two outstanding players. We were
down five points with 9.2 seconds when we finally made a
three point shot on our third offensive rebound. I
called timeout to set our defense. We came out in a full
court press needing a still, and it happened. I called
another timeout to set our inbounds play. 8.2 seconds,
our ball under our basket down two points. We ran a back
door cut and then slipped Kolin high to the three point
line for a three. He made the shot with 1.9 seconds to
left for the win. Two Tulsa television stations showed
our game highlights and one interviewed Kolin after the
game. I was so excited for the team.

Bishop Kelley Comets
44-32, 9-0
This game was in the First round of the Skiatook
Tournament. It’s always good to get that first win under
your belt in tournament play. This is a great
tournament, close to Bartlesville for our fans,
hospitality is great, and the competition is awesome.
Ramon hurt his foot right before the half and did not
play in the second half. Kelley took advantage of this
and made a game out of it in the second half, their kids
never quit! We were lucky to hold on and get the win.

NOAH Jaguars
68-34, 8-0
Happy New Year! What a great way to kick off the season
half of the season. This game allows us to knock off all
the rust from the Winter break. We can use this game for
conditioning and to work on our offensive timing. It
also allows me to play the entire bunch which is good
for the guys that don’t get much varsity playing time.

Tahlequah Tigers
51-33, 7-0
7-0, what a perfect Christmas gift, it’s going to be a
good Christmas. We were bad tonight, didn’t guard and
didn’t shoot the ball very well, that’s a bad
combination! We took the Tigers for granted and weren’t
as sharp as we should have been. This is a good lesson
for the team; we are not good enough to take anyone for
granted.
I feel so blessed to coach this team, they work so hard
in practice, they are very coachable, and they are fun
to be around.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Remember the true meaning of Christmas and pray for the
less fortunate families during this time. May God bless
you and your family as he has me and my family!

Bishop Kelley Invitational Finals
Bishop McGuinness Irish
40-34, 6-0
Bishop Kelley Invitational CHAMPIONS! We opened the game
by making five three pointers out of our first six
possessions. McGuinnes has a nice team and a highly
recruited big man, which I think we did a good job
containing him. I am so happy for my team to win a
tournament and see the rewards of their hard work pay
off. We played a solid game on both ends of the court.
This was an outstanding tournament put on by the Bishop
Kelley basketball staff. They were a very gracious host
and everything was first class!

Bishop Kelley Invitational Semi-finals
Stilwell Indians
56-38, 5-0
We are in the finals! This was a solid win against a
quality team. This might have been our best game to date
defensively. We shot 42.9% from the three point line and
only gave up 25.5 % from the field. That combination
will win you a lot of games. We move onto the finals
versus Bishop McGuinness, another outstanding program
with a rich tradition in basketball.

Bishop Kelley Invitational
Cascia Hall Commandos
61-48, 4-0
It’s a WIN and we advance to play in the semifinals. I
didn’t feel like we played very smart at times and our
defense wasn’t very good. We forced 31 turnovers but
committed 21, which is too many. We must take advantage
of our opponents’ turnovers and not just give the ball
back to them.

Skiatook Bulldogs
58-28, 3-0
WOW, this team can really guard! When we shoot the ball
well as we did tonight we are pretty good. Game got out
of hand late and I felt bad about the final score, but
we were trying to work on some offensive plays.

Owassso Rams
43-33, 2-0
This was our first road test of the year and we passed
the test. Owasso had only had their football players for
a few days. I expect a little different team next time
we play them. Our defense was really good tonight and
that is a good thing because our offense wasn’t very
good. I believe that all good teams play really good
defense. You may have games where the ball just doesn’t
go in for you, but you can play good defense every
single game and still have a chance to win.

Sand Springs Sandites
53-49, 1-0
The Season Opener, It was pretty but it was a win! I
assume we had a little first game jitters working
against us in this game. A team can scrimmage and
scrimmage but when you put a crowd in the stands, turn
on the game clock, and add officials it’s a whole
different story. Sand Springs has a great player that
made the game closer than I would have liked, he scored
21 of their 49 points. I thought our defense was pretty
good for three quarters but we gave up to many points in
the fourth quarter.
November 17, 2010
The difference a day makes! As good as were yesterday in
our scrimmages we were that bad today! I believe the
team was feeling good about themselves and didn’t bring
their A game to the court. They thought they were pretty
good, they learned a valuable lesson. I really didn’t
want to scrimmage on back to back days but this was the
only dates that Bixby and Inola could come. In defense
of my team we are a little banged up right now, nothing
serious just a few hurt ankles and bruises. Coach
Barkley at Inola was my high school coach and Scott
Padek at Bixby is one of my closest buddies in coaching,
they are outstanding people and great coaches.

Coaches versus Cancer Scrimmage at Union High School
This is always a great day of scrimmages and for a great
cause. The Oklahoma offices of the American Cancer
Society have done a great job promoting the Coaches
versus Cancer program. We scrimmaged Broken Arrow and
Union, two of the top programs in Oklahoma and we walked
away feeling good about our team. Last year they kicked
us pretty good but this year we had some success. The
difference a year makes.
October 21, 2010
Today was our annual Oklahoma Basketball Coaches
Association Meeting in Shawnee. The board asked me to
speak to the coaches, I find it to be an honor that they
would want to hear something that I have to say about
basketball. This is a fun filled day for me as I get the
opportunity to see people that I don’t get to see
throughout the year. The clinic is not as well attended
as it has been in the past, but I can understand.
Basketball season is the longest of any sport and
coaches have used the fall break as a time to spend with
their families and go on a mini vacation
October 1, 2010
I have been waiting on this day for seven months. Last
season was my first losing season in Bartlesville. Last
year’s team really over achieved and they were a great
bunch to be around, winning 11 games was a testament of
their hard work and being coachable. However; I am ready
to get in the gym and start working. This year/s team
will be very young as far as grade wise but they are a
very talented group.
