THE LATEST

02/12/10
Stillwater
Won 64-61, 10-10
What a GREAT win! We trailed the entire game and took our first lead with under 2:00 minutes to play. I was really proud of our defense in the fourth quarter and our attention to detail on the offensive end was outstanding the last 2 minutes of the game. Our players were excited and I was so pleased to see the joy that the win brought them.

02/09/10
Sand Springs
Won 66-48, 9-10
This is the Bruin team I wanted to see the first time we played Sand Springs. This two games were the exactly the same! First time we were up seven at the half and got beat 65-49, and this time Sand Springs was up seven at the half and we won 66-48. We both had big third quarter; ours was a result of our defensive effort. We really stepped up our intensity and this created a bunch of fast break points for us. This was a special night as it was Senior Night. I started Chris, Nick, Travis, and Cory, our four senior players. The Bru Cru brought a lot of excitement to the arena as it was our biggest and best crowd of the year.

02/06/10
Claremore
Loss 55-81, 8-10
Claremore has an excellent team and we could play them 10 times and not beat them. I was not pleased with the way we failed to handle their press. I understand that they are just better than we are, but at times we just fell apart and forgot about being fundamentally sound. I will not allow this loss to negate the Ponca City win on Friday night. We need to get this one past us.

02/05/10
Ponca City
Won 51-44, 8-9
What a great win against a good Ponca City team. Chase Mongold is a good player and we did a decent job of holding him to 19 points, but we did a great job of containing their guards. The Ponca City win will be a good win for our player’s moral. We need to take something from this and build on it for the rest of the season.

02/02/10
Sand Springs
Loss 49-65, 7-9
What a tale of two halves! We were up seven at the half and were in total control of the game and man Sand Springs went crazy in the third quarter. Well, our defensive effort was not very good! We gave up 29 points in the third quarter and were never in the game. This is was of those games you look back at after the season and know you could have won.

1/29/10
Ponca City
The game was postponed due to another snow storm that hit the State of Oklahoma. Just about every school district in the State was closed on Friday. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, February 22nd.

1/26/10
NOAH
Won 46-21, 7-8
This was a fun game for our players, as it gives some of the guys that normally don’t play much varsity time an opportunity to play. I appreciate the fact that NOAH comes to play us, as their players enjoy playing in our facility. The Bruins are fighting to get to 500 on the season.

1/24/10
Harrah
Won 46-45, 6-8
We played three straight games in the tournament that was decided on the last possession of the game. This time Ramon Benson hit a three point shot with 5 seconds left to put the Bruins up by two points. We had to get a defensive stop to seal the victory. We finished third in the tournament and Blake Hicks was named to the all-tournament team.

1/23/10
Tahlequah
Loss 55-58, 5-8
The Bruins missed a three point shot with 5 seconds left in the game for the win. We didn’t play as well as we did against Bixby, but I do see signs of improvement. We will have to regroup and get ready to play tomorrow in the 3rd place game.

1/22/10
Bixby
Won 64-62, 5-7
What a great win. Probably our best played game of the year, from start to finish. The game ended with Cory Anderson hitting a three point shot at the buzzer, which the officials counted. Bixby has a very good team and we were very fortunate to win the game.

1/15/10
Enid
Loss 36-59, 4-7
We were never in the game. Enid made lots of shots and we could contain their two best players. Fitzpatrick is one of the best guards in the State and he threw in 29 points. We need to regroup and get ready for the Port City Classic.

Port City Classic @ Catoosa High School
Catoosa puts on an outstanding tournament and we have been very fortunate to play well there. We have won this tournament 3 out of the last four years and are the defending champions.

01/11/10
51-46, 4-6
The dreaded 7th place game of the Skiatook Tournament, I believe it is the first time in my tenure at Bartlesville that we have played in a 7th place game. We played this game on a Monday at 11:30 AM since we backed up the tournament a day due to weather.

This was a battle from start to finish by two teams both needing a victory really bad. I though our defense was very good, but we didn’t shoot the ball very well, Skiatook might have had something to do with that. I glad the team got a win and maybe our young team can get on a roll now.

01/09/10
Edmond Memorial
47-60, 3-6
We didn’t win but I can’t fault the team’s effort. They went out and competed and played hard against a very good team. We played a very solid first half but couldn’t keep it up in the second half. We shot the ball well and Cory Anderson was on fire the first quarter scoring 17 of our 20 points. We can take something from this lost.

01/08/10
Skiatook Tournament
Another snow storm came in overnight and we had to postpone the tournament for one day and move all the game back a day. We did not have school on Thursday or Friday due to the weather.

Jenks Trojans
33-56, 3-5
Boy did we run into a buzz saw! We just didn’t compete and we didn’t match Jenks’ intensity! They whipped us in every aspect of the game. I am ready to forget about this one!

01/05/10
Owasso Rams
42-43, 3-4
A heart breaker! We lost on a last second shot after playing very well in our first game back since the Christmas break. We didn’t have school on Monday because a snow storm. I was worried how the team would react but they played very well. Tough loss but I saw improvement and a team that is trying to get better.

12/18/09
Claremore Zebras
58-71, 3-3
Finals week at Bartlesville and this is the last game before the Christmas Break. We had a two point game at the half and just played awful in the second half. Claremore had a really nice team but we didn’t do the little things it takes to win games like this.

We are taking some time off for the Christmas and I hope we show up after Christmas ready to get better! I wish a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s to all.

12/12/09
Bentonville, Ark. Tigers
69-54, 3-2
What a fun game this was. Bentonville pressed us the entire game and I was proud of how the young men responded to their pressure. We shot the ball really well 63% from the three point line and 56% from the field, and 81% from the free throw line to win the consolation bracket. As always our goal is to win two games in each tournament and we did just that.

12/11/09
Will Rogers Ropers
55-37, 2-2
This was bittersweet victory for me, but don’t get me wrong all wins are good ones! I coached for two years at Will Rogers and I had a great experience there. I hate playing former schools or former assistants; because I know how badly they feel if we win. It really does take away some of the glory of victory. We only had 11 turnovers, OUTSTANDING; now if we can continue taking care of the ball we will improve as a team.

12/10/09
Ardmore Tigers
41-58, 1-2
28 turnovers, so I guess you can figure where I am headed! Many of our turnovers are self induced which is why I can’t stand that aspect of our game. Our rebounding was outstanding but little if anything else was very good.

12/10-12/09
ConocoPhillips/Arvest Bank Invitational
This is the ninth annual and perhaps the best high school tournament in Oklahoma because of the generosity of ConocoPhillips and Arvest Bank. The teams walk away with gifts looking like a bowl experience.

12/04/09
Stillwater Pioneers
42-58, 1-1
We didn’t compete like I thought we would. Again we committed 23 turnovers; this is starting to be a very bad habit! My young guards have got to learn to value the ball more and not just throw it away. Our attention to detail was not very good, and that’s something we must get better at if we are going to win any games.

12/01/09
NOAH Jaguars
66-54, 1-0
It was a struggle as we continue to play some very young players. We committed way to many turnovers! I like our rebounding efforts and we had 22 assist, which is outstanding. For us to be successful we must cut down on our turnovers.

11/12/09
Scrimmage @ Union
Well that didn’t go very well! Broken Arrow and Union exposed my worst fears and this could be a very difficult year as far as wins and loses are concerned. We turned the ball off way to much and didn’t shoot the ball very well either. We had a few potential starters out battling injuries so that didn’t help any.

11/01/09
The season is just around the corner and I have no feel as to how this team will perform.
We lost three starters off last year’s team and 90% of our scoring; we will have to huge void to fill in that area. I really like this team, they are a great group of young men that work hard and are very coachable, sometimes as a coach that is all you can ask of them.

We have 9 sophomores on the roster and there could be as many as two that will start, with as many as five playing significant minutes. I have not had a team this young since I came to Bartlesville.
